Perry Warjiyo Kembali Emban Tugas Ketua Umum ISEI

JAKARTA - Governor of Bank Indonesia (BI) Perry Warjiyo has again been appointed as General Chair of the Indonesian Economic Bachelors Association (ISEI), which means continuing his term of office for the period 2024-2027.

"In this Congress, unanimous deliberation gave me the mandate to become the General Chair for the 2024-2027 period," Perry said as quoted by ANTARA, Friday, September 20.

Perry also appreciated the dedication of the administrators who have played an active role in advancing ISEI, and emphasized the importance of collaboration between academics, businessmen, and the community to contribute to national and regional economic development.

He also said that ISEI would continue to carry out its role to provide policy recommendations.

Through the 2024 ISEI XXII Congress this time, ISEI proposes that downstream food can be encouraged to become one of the policies in an effort to transform the economy.

There are three reasons that make downstream food important.

First, downstream food can significantly encourage employment. Second, downstream food can increase national food security, reduce dependence on imports, and maintain price stability. Third, downstream food can support sustainable economic growth by creating added value from local commodities.

"The strategy of downstreaming food in Indonesia can be applied in stages," said Perry.

In the short term, he continued, the main focus can be directed at commodities that support food security and create jobs, such as rice, chilies, shallots, and fish.

Meanwhile, in the medium and long term, downstreaming can be focused on commodities that have great potential for controlling the current account deficit, such as seaweed, palm oil, and sugar cane.

"Of course, the success of downstreaming food needs to be supported by various other key strategies, which include regional policy trading institutions to financing strategies," added Perry.
