Next Week, Jokowi Will Inaugurate SGAR Smelter Luxury
JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo confirmed next week he will inaugurate the bauxite smelter in Mempawah, West Kalimantan. For information, this smelter is the second bauxite smelter after previously standing a smelter in Bintan, Riau Islands.
"Hilirization in bauxite has become one in Bintan and next week I will also inaugurate it at Mempawah West Kalimantan," said Jokowi in his remarks at the opening of the XXII Indonesian Economic Bachelors Association (ISEI) Congress and the 2024 National Seminar in Surakarta, Central Java, quoted on Friday, September 20.
Jokowi said that the Smelter Grade Alumina Refinery (SGAR) was the result of the collaboration between PT Indonesia Asahan Aluminum or Inalum and PT Aneka Tambang Tbk (Antam).
This smelter, he said, would produce products in the form of aluminum, car wheels, aircraft bodies.
"Yang di mempawah ini miliknya BUMN akan jadi alumunium, velg mobil, body pesawat semuanya," kata dia.

In addition to inaugurating the SGAR Mempawah, Jokowi said that he would also inaugurate Freeport and Amman Mineral's smelters next week.
"Next week there will be two large smelters whose investment is approximately IDR 50 - IDR 60 trillion, already operating, namely in Amman in Sumbawa and Freeport in Gresik. From the copper I saw in the field, it became goods that had gone to cooper foils, cables, car frames," said Jokowi.
Just so you know, the two MIND ID members disbursed investments of up to 830 million US dollars or equivalent to Rp. 13.1 trillion for the SGAR project. Later, this bauxite ore refining plant can produce 1 million tons of alumina per year.
