Israeli Fighter Jet Attacks Lebanon After Terror Of Pager-Walkie Talkie Explosion

JAKARTA - Israeli jets and artillery attacked a number of targets in southern Lebanon overnight amid rising tensions following a mass attack on Hezbollah communications devices this week.

Reported by Reuters on Thursday, September 19, the Israeli military said airstrikes hit Hezbollah targets in Chihine, Tayibe, Blide, Meiss El Jabal, Aitaroun and Kfarkela in southern Lebanon, as well as Hezbollah weapons storage facilities in the Khiam region.

Israeli media reported a number of Israeli civilians were injured in anti-tank missile fire from Lebanon but there has been no official confirmation.

Israel's latest attack comes after a period of growing concern over the escalation of the conflict on the border with southern Lebanon, in which Israeli forces have been involved in a shootout with Iran-backed Hezbollah for months.

On Wednesday, September 18, Hezbollah fired about 20 projectiles at Israel, mostly intercepted by air defense systems without causing injury, the military said.

About 10 missiles were fired into the area of Mount Hermon in Israel's occupied Golan Heights, where Israel has important installations of surveillance, espionage, and air defenses.

This week dozens of people were killed and thousands more injured in sophisticated attacks targeting communications devices used by Hezbollah agents. Israel has not made direct comments on the attack, which various security sources said was carried out by its spy agency, Mossad.
