China Open 2024: Dejan/Gloria To Quarter Finals

JAKARTA - Mixed doubles pair Dejan Ferdinansyah/Gloria Emanuelle Widjaja qualified for the quarter-finals of the China Open 2024.

They got the first eight tickets for Indonesia after beating the Malaysian pair, Chen Tang Jie/Toh Ee Wei, in the rubber game 21-15, 13-21, and 21-9 on Thursday, September 19, 2024, morning WIB.

"Alhamdulillah, today we were able to play quite well. From the game, this is our first meeting with them. So, at first we were still touching each other's strengths and weaknesses," said Dejan after the match.

In this match, Dejan/Gloria appeared dominant in the first and third games. As for the second game, they only won the first number and continued to lag behind after.

During the match, Dejan/Gloria also received directions from veteran player Hendra Setiawan, who accompanied their coach Vita Marissa on the sidelines.

"Obviously adding strength and motivation. Both are great Indonesian badminton legends. So, we have no reason to be afraid," said Dejan.

In the quarter-finals, Friday, September 20, 2024, Dejan/Gloria will meet again with another Malaysian doubles, namely the Hoo Pang Ron/Cheng Su Yin pair. The duel will be their first competitive clash.

Hoo/Cheng reached the quarter-finals by repatriating fellow Malaysian pair Roy King Yap/Valeree Siow, in a two-game straight match.

Indonesia has a total of six representatives who have penetrated the second round of this tournament. The rest will play after this.
