Apple Announces Language Support Extended For Apple Intelligence Starting 2025

JAKARTA - This week, Apple announced that language support for the Apple Intelligence feature will be further expanded over the next year. The first feature will be launched in US English in October 2024 in conjunction with the release of iOS 18.1. However, more languages and additional capabilities will be launched in stages.

This announcement adds to the information first disclosed during the iPhone event in September, giving non-US customers hope that they will be able to use Apple Intelligence sooner.

When launched, Apple Intelligence was only available in US English and would not be available in China or the European Union due to legal and regulatory issues. However, outside of the region, users can try beta Apple Intelligence if their device is regulated into US English.

Language support plans are as follows:

In December 2024, Apple will add local variants from English, including Great Britain, Australia, Canada, New Zealand, and South Africa. This support is likely to come with iOS 18.2, which will also feature such as Genmoji, Image Playgrounds, and integration with the ChatGPT system.

In 2025, Apple will start supporting non-English languages. The language announced so far includes:

In addition, there will be localization of English for India and Singapore.

Regarding legal issues in the European Union and China, Apple is in discussions with regulators. At the EU, the Digital Markets Act (DMA) blocks the launch of Apple Intelligence on iPhone and iPad. However, this feature is available on macOS Sequoia 15.1 beta for developers, as macOS is not considered a GTeeper platform. Apple hopes to address this issue and launch the feature on iOS eventually.
