Lumajang Police Find Hundreds Of Cannabis Plants In The Semeru Slope

LUMAJANG-Lumajang Police officers found hundreds of cannabis plants planted on the slopes of Mount Semeru, Argosari Village, Lumajang Regency, East Java.

"The discovery of hundreds of cannabis plants began with the operation of Tumpas Narcotics carried out by the police, then an investigation was carried out," said Head of Operations Section of the Lumajang Police, Kompol Jauhar Maarif, as reported by ANTARA, Wednesday, September 18.

Joint officers managed to track down the presence of a hidden marijuana field in the forest area of the slopes of Mount Semeru in Argosari Village, Senduro District, but the cannabis plant was planted in several locations.

A joint team consisting of the National Police, TNI, and Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS) officers managed to find four marijuana field points with plant heights reaching 1.5 to 2 meters which are predicted to be three to four months old and ready for harvest.

"The total that was successfully secured was around 453 cannabis plants, with details in the first location 72 sticks were found, then the second location was 51 sticks, the third location was 210 sticks, and the fourth location was 120 sticks," explained Jauhar.

Police arrested two people with the initials Y and P, both suspected of planting the cannabis plant on the slopes of Mount Semeru. However, the Lumajang Police Satreskoba is still investigating the case.

"All the cannabis plants that have been confiscated have been taken to the Lumajang Police Headquarters as evidence. Meanwhile, the two suspected perpetrators are currently undergoing intensive examination," he said.

Jauhar said the perpetrators were very clever in choosing locations to grow cannabis plants, namely using extreme terrain to trick officers.

"The location for planting marijuana is very steep and difficult to reach, which the perpetrators may have deliberately chosen to avoid being caught by officers," he said.

Evidence of a cannabis plant on the slopes of Mount Semeru has been removed and put in a sack, then taken to the Lumajang Police Headquarters for investigation purposes.
