M 5.0 Earthquake Bandung, BPBD Deploys 1,000 Data Volunteers For Damage Impacts In Canjur

The Cianjur Regency Regional Disaster Management Agency conducted data collection related to the impact of the 5.0 magnitude (M) earthquake centered in Bandung Regency.

Head of BPBD Cianjur Asep Sukma Wijaya said his party had deployed around 1,000 Disaster Resilient Volunteers (Retana) to collect the data.

"We have asked all volunteers to carry out surveillance and immediately report the impact of the earthquake felt, especially in border areas with Bandung Regency such as Naringgul, Pasirkuda, Campaka and Haurwangi sub-districts," said Cianjur BPBD Chief Executive Asep Sukma Wijaya when contacted Wednesday, September 18, confiscated by Antara.

He added, although the Bandung Regency earthquake was not very felt in most parts of Cianjur, residents at the border, especially in the southern region, reported earthquake tremors.

As of Wednesday evening September 18, Asep said that there were no impacts in the field that caused damage in the Cianjur area, including at the border with Bandung Regency, but his party appealed to residents to remain vigilant and not panic.

Meanwhile, regarding the earthquake that hit several sub-districts in Bandung Regency, his party was preparing various aids, including sending volunteers when needed to coordinate with Regional Apparatus Organizations within the Cianjur Regency Government.

"We are still collecting data related to logistics needed by affected communities in Bandung Regency, several officers from the Cianjur BPBD have coordinated directly to the affected locations," he said.

As reported by BPBD West Java, it was reported that 20 people suffered minor, moderate, and serious injuries, as a result of the earthquake that occurred in Bandung Regency on Wednesday morning.

Head of Emergency for West Java BPBD Pusdalops, Hadi Rahmat, said that currently his party together with the relevant district/city BPBD are still conducting assessments regarding the number of victims and buildings damaged by the earthquake measuring 5.0 magnitude at 09:41 WIB.

"Meanwhile, there were 20 people who were injured, with one minor injury, 14 moderate injuries, and five serious injuries, who were referred to the Kertasari Hospital and the Kertasari Health Center," Hadi wrote in a short message in Bandung, Wednesday.

Based on the data that entered at 12:50 WIB, the impact of the earthquake was observed in Tarumajaya, Cihawuk, and Cibeureum Villages (Kakatari District), then Margamukti Village (Pangalengan District), Cikawao Village ( Pacet District), Pinggirsari Village (Arjasari District), and Bojongmanggu Village (Pameungpeuk District) in Bandung Regency.

Then Barusari, Pasirwangi, Sarimukti, and Talaga (Pasirwangi District), Sirnajaya Village (Tarogong Kaler District), and Mekarjaya Village (Sugaresmi District) in Garut Regency.
