BPS Reveals Most Rice Imports From Thailand

JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) noted that until August 2024 imports of food commodities, namely rice to Indonesia, increased by 121.34 percent.

Deputy for Distribution and Services of BPS, Pudji Ismartini said, Indonesia had imported 3.05 million tons of rice or 1.91 billion US dollars until August 2024.

"By contributing 1.50 percent of the total value of Indonesia's non-oil and gas imports," said Pudji at the Press Conference, Tuesday, September 19.

Meanwhile, based on its home country, the most rice imports came from Thailand, reaching 1.13 million tons or 734.78 million US dollars.

Then, from Vietnam it reached 0.87 million tons, or worth 542.86 million US dollars. Meanwhile, from Pakistan it reached 0.46 million tons, or 290.56 million US dollars.

Furthermore, the volume of rice imports from January to August 2024 reached 202.66 thousand tons.

Meanwhile, imports of food commodities such as wheat and meslin, sugar, and rice contributed 5.07 percent to the total import of non-oil and gas.

Pudji explained that the import of wheat and meslin until August 2024 was 8.44 million tons or US$2.56 billion with a contribution of 2.01 percent of the total non-oil and gas imports in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, wheat imports and the most machines came from Australia, which reached 2.27 million tons or 707.39 million US dollars, Canada as much as 1.82 million tons or 639.71 million US dollars, Argentina as much as 1.32 million tons or 373.56 million US dollars.

Furthermore, the import volume of wheat and machinery from January to August 2024 reached 981.98 thousand tons.

Meanwhile, sugar imports until August 2024 amounted to 3.38 million tons or 2.00 billion US dollars with a contribution of 1.56 percent of the total non-oil and gas imports in Indonesia.

Meanwhile, based on their home country, the most sugar imports came from Brazil amounting to 1.96 million tons or 1.15 billion US dollars, Thailand as much as 0.89 million tons or 533.78 million US dollars, and Australia as much as 0.42 million tons or 241.31 million US dollars.

Furthermore, the volume of sugar imports from January to August 2024 reached 314.12 thousand tons.
