Toddler Dragged By Musi River Currents Along 25 KM Found Dead

PALEMBANG - The search and rescue team (SAR) found the body of a toddler who drowned after being swept away by the 25-kilometer Musi River in Muara Lakitan, Musi Rawas, South Sumatra.

Head of the Palembang SAR Office Raymond Konstantin said the male toddler victim was Rizi (3), a resident of Prabumulih village, Muara Lakitan District, Musi Rawas Regency.

A total of two teams from the Palembang SAR Office and the Lubuk Linggau SAR Post were deployed to search for victims who had been reported missing since last Thursday, equipped with diving equipment, and rubber boats.

"The victim drowned and was dragged by the river current while taking a shower with his grandmother," said Raymond, quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, September 17.

Until finally the victim's body was found in a search operation on the fourth day, Monday (16/9) at 22.00 WIB. The victim was found dragged about a radius of 25 kilometers from Muara Lakitan, Musi Rawas, which is the location, reportedly drowned.

"The victim's body was caught in a fishing net belonging to a resident in Ngulak Village, Musi Banyuasin Regency," he said.

According to Raymond, the SAR team and residents had taken the victim's body to the Ngulak Health Center to be identified to the family.

The victim's body has now been handed over to the family for burial after his parents confirmed that the body was their son.

With this, the head of the Palembang SAR Office reminded residents to be more careful when doing activities in the Musi River, especially since there is still the potential for rain to flush a number of areas in South Sumatra for the next time so that it can cause the volume of river water to increase.
