Phil Handy Opens Training Clinic In Indonesia

JAKARTA The former assistant coach of the Los Angeles Lakers, Phil Handy, will certainly come to Indonesia for the second time and open a coaching clinic for coaches and players.

Phil plans to provide the sponsored activity of PT Bank OCBC NISP Tbk with the title "94 Feet of The Indonesian Basketball Camp2024" on 25-28 September 2024 at GBK Arena, Senayan, Jakarta.

The Central Executive of the Indonesian Basketball Association (PP Perbasi), Ardima Rama Putra, said that the presence of Phil Handy was a blessing for Indonesian basketball.

"This activity is used for coaching young people from the age of 14-18 years. With a coach of this class, Indonesia will definitely bring the skills of Indonesian players to increase," Rama said at a press conference in Jakarta.

Phil's activities began by providing coaching clinics to coaches on September 25, 2024. Following that, the schedule for basketball players aged 14-18 years from September 26 to 27, 2024.

The series of activities then reached the peak on September 28, 2024 when Phil Handy will attend meet and greet events and talk shows at OCBC Space BSD, Tangerang, Banten.

This coaching clinic stems from Phil's decision to contact the Indonesian Women's Basketball National Team Manager, Christopher Tanuwidjaja. Both have close ties because Phil had previously been to Indonesia.

Christopher revealed that he then discussed with the late General Chairperson of Perbasi, Danny Kosasih, regarding the contents of the conversation with Phil.

Danny then proposed that Phil give coaching clinics to young basketball players.

"Phil agreed, but Phil asked him not to have zero children on the basis of basketball. He wants to develop one that already has a basketball basis," said Christopher.

Phil Handy had previously come to Indonesia to help prepare the Women's Basketball National Team for the 2022 Asian Games in Hangzhou, China.

At that time, he came to transfer some technical knowledge to the Garuda Putri Squad. As a result, the Women's Basketball National Team was able to penetrate the quarter-finals of the quadrennial event.

The coaching clinic involving Phil is the last major offering of the management of PP Perbasi for the 2019-2023 period. The reason is, the national basketball master will change management next month through the national deliberation (Munas).
