RSF Serang Sennar Sudan, 31 People Died

JAKARTA - A total of 31 people have died and 100 others have been injured since paramilitary Rapid Support Forces (RSF) again carried out attacks in the city of Sennar in southeastern Sudan.

As reported by Reuters on Monday, September 9, several parts of the city including the market were targeted by RSF artillery fire, a lawyer who monitors cases of civilian deaths and other humanitarian violations said.

The progress of the RSF, which already controls most of the Sennar area and at least half of the country, has slowed down in the southeast due to heavy rains, making movement difficult.

The war with Sudanese troops created the world's largest hunger and internal evacuation crisis, killing tens of thousands of civilians and destroying much of Sudan's infrastructure and economy.

An emergency lawyer said soldiers killed at least four people in al-Souki, a town near Sennar, in an air strike. The RSF killed one person and injured 17 people in an artillery strike on el-Obey, another hard-to-control city.

The two sides involved in the 18-month civil war in Sudan have committed violations that may constitute war crimes, the UN mandated mission called for peacekeepers and arms embargoers across the country.

On Saturday, Sudan's military-backed Foreign Ministry rejected the two recommendations, calling the idea of an international peacekeeping force the wishes of Sudan's enemies and that it would not be fulfilled.
