BMKG Modified Weather To Prevent Rain In The Opening Of The XXI Aceh PON, North Sumatra

JAKARTA - The Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) conducted weather modification technology (TMC) to prevent rain from falling during the opening of the XXI Aceh National Sports Week (PON)-North Sumatra 2024.

"This weather modification operation is in anticipation so that later at the opening it will not rain which can cause inconvenience to the PON opening process," said Head of the Class I BMKG Meteorological Station SIM Nasrol Aidil in Banda Aceh, Monday, September 9, as reported by Antara.

Aidil said the weather modification operation began on September 8-10, using a casa sortie 2 PK-SNN aircraft in collaboration with the Aceh National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) and Smart Aviaton.

"We have carried out three flights carrying salt seeding since yesterday afternoon until today and will continue to be carried out until the 10th," he said.

Until now, he said, BMKG has spent four tons of sodium chloride (NaCL) salt to make seeding above the waters of the west coast of Aceh Besar.

"This salt seed reaches the waters of the Indian Ocean and several other points," he said.

He added that the TMC operation was also carried out as an effort to prevent hydrometeorological disasters, considering that September-October had entered its second transition season towards the rainy season.

"Apart from PON support, this is also to anticipate hydrometeorological disasters," said Nasrol Aidil.

As is known, the opening of the 2024 Aceh XXI PON will be held tonight at the Banda Aceh National Hope Stadium, and will be opened directly by the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo.
