Toyota New Fortuner GR Sport: New Look Stronger, But Without Sunroof?

JAKARTA PT Toyota Astra Motor (TAM) recently launched New Fortuner with various refreshes to exterior and interior designs, especially in the Gazoo Racing (GR) variant that appears more sporting and courageous. One of the most striking changes can be seen in the highest variant, namely GR-S, which has a fierce appearance with a dashing front bumper, adding to the tough impression of this flagship SUV.

However, despite the many improvements, a big question arises in the minds of many people: why isn't New Fortuner equipped with a sunset yet?

Answering the question, Anton Jimmi Suwandy, Marketing Director of PT TAM, explained that the sunset is not an urgent feature for Fortuner, given the design and priorities consumers want. "This is more about car design and consumer priorities. There are three main things that our consumers want more," explained Anton on the sidelines of the launch.

He revealed that the three things that consumers prioritize are fresher designs, advanced security features such as Toyota Safety Sense (TSS), and strong engine performance, especially for the 4x4 variant. "So that doesn't mean we don't want to bring sunroofts, but these three things are the main focus of consumers," he added.

The highest variant, New Fortuner 2.8 GR Sport 4x4 with TSS, is designed as a vehicle capable of providing high comfort on urban roads, but remains reliable on off-road terrain. Several new touches typical of Gazoo Racing are seen in this model, ranging from exteriors equipped with New LED with Sequential, New Grille with GR Front Spoiler, to New Black Roof that give a luxurious impression.

The side features a new red caliber brake and more aggressive wheels design, while the back is equipped with a New Rear Spice with a Spoiler GR and a Garnish New Back Door that further strengthens the sporty look.

In terms of performance, New Fortuner GR Sport maintains a 1GD-FTV 2,755 cc VNT Intercooler diesel engine which produces 203 hp of power at 3,000-4,000 rpm and a large 499 Nm of torque at 1,600-2,800 rpm. This ensures that this SUV remains powerful and responsive, both on normal roads and on heavy terrain.

New Fortuner is priced starting at IDR 573.7 million for type G 2.4 4x2 M/T, while the highest variant is 2.8 GR-S 4x4 with all its flagship features sold at a price of IDR 761.7 million. With these various updates, Toyota Fortuner remains a tough SUV option, even without a sunrooft.
