Google Messages Tests New RCS Status Indicators

JAKARTA Google Messages is testing small but significant changes in the way this application displays Rich Communication Services (RCS) conversations. Currently, this application distinguishes between RCS and SMS/MMS conversations with text labels such as "RCS message" and "Text message."

New update being tested will simplify this indicator. Labels for RCS conversations will change to just (RCS), while SMS/MMS conversations will be labeled as (Text). These changes aim to make the indicators shorter and clearer. Previous labels included the word message, which some users considered need not recall the context of the chat window.

However, the new label uses brackets that some users may consider as less friendly or too technical display. This update is currently in the testing phase and has only been reported to be applied to a small number of users.

This change follows a recent update where Google makes the send button in Google Messages more colorful, showing ongoing efforts to improve user interface elements in the app.
