Volvo Ensures EX60 Attends 2026 With New, More Advanced And Cost-Efficient Platform

JAKARTA - Recently, Volvo announced to step down in producing pure electric vehicles fully by 2030. However, this did not prevent them from canceling some future EV launches.

The Swedish brand has determined that the next electric model EX60 will be launched in 2026 using the latest SPA3 architecture or as another alternative to the gasoline version of the XC60 model.

Launching Carscoops, Saturday, September 7, the architecture is designed to develop a future model that is claimed to be more cost-effective. The platform is an increase from the SPA2 underlying the larger EX90 and ES90 sedans.

According to Volvo, the SPA3 platform has capabilities in enhanced core computing and more measurable designs than the SPA2.

In theory, the platform can be compatible with models in various sizes ranging from smaller vehicles such as EX30 to larger, for example EX90.

Volvo claims this platform can significantly reduce investment and production costs while allowing automakers to be more flexible and adapt faster to market conditions that fluctuate.

Volvo Chief Engineering & Technology Officer Cars Anders Bell, said that SPA3 represents a large step from an engineering point of view as well as evolved in terms of software and electronics compared to its predecessor.

"This was designed from the start to make it more measurable, not only in size and price and cross-region, but also in increasing volume," Bell said.

In addition, the manufacturer also believes that EX60 will bring a big boost as well as mark changes in Volvo's journey to electrification. It is hoped that the model can follow the trend of being the best-selling vehicle following the success of ICE's XC60.

The EX60 Volvo will compete with future models from rivals such as BMW iX3 based on Neue Classe and Mercedes-Benz GLC. Each will make its debuts in 2025 and 2026.
