At The 2024 ISF Forum, Jokowi Explains Indonesia's Abundant Energy Potential
JAKARTA - Indonesia has the potential for abundant energy of more than 3,600 Gigawatts. In addition, Indonesia also has the largest floating solar power plant (PLTS) in Southeast Asia and the third largest in the world with a capacity of 192 Megawatt peak (MWp) in Cirata Reservoir, West Java.
Indonesia, said President Widodo, also has great potential for carbon absorption through mangrove forests.
However, he said that all the potential that Indonesia has can be utilized optimally if it is strengthened by research and investment or funding from developed countries.
Jokowi emphasized that the issue of climate change cannot be resolved if countries in the world only prioritize their respective interests or egos.
This statement was made by President Jokowi in his remarks at the opening ceremony of the Indonesia International Sustainability Forum (ISF) at the Jakarta Convention Center, Jakarta, Thursday, September 5, 2024.
"What I really want to emphasize is that this climate change problem cannot be resolved during the world using an economic approach. As long as the world only calculates its own advantages and as long as the world only prioritizes its own egocentricity," said President Jokowi.
President Jokowi stressed that he no longer needs to convey about how dangerous climate change is, how urgent the energy transition or the importance of sustainability.
According to him, what is needed in solving climate change issues is a collaborative and humane approach between developed and developing countries, and the need to pay close attention to aspects of humanity so that the process does not sacrifice the interests of the small people.
