Erick Thohir Worries Suicide Bombing In Makassar Interferes With Vaccinations

JAKARTA - State-Owned Enterprises (BUMN) Minister Erick Thohir also mourned the suicide bombing at the Cathedral Church, Makassar. The incident is also feared that it could interfere with the vaccination process, especially in the local area.

"Currently, it is still a pandemic and the community is in a lot of trouble. Moreover, this could disrupt the vaccination program," he said while reviewing the State-Owned Enterprises' (BUMN) Joint Vaccination Center program at the Grand City Mall Surabaya Complex, Sunday, March 28.

According to him, the community has a sense of fear that later the vaccination program will be disrupted due to this incident.

Regarding this incident, Erick Thohir advised to be concerned and asked all parties to refrain because the current condition of Indonesia is still trying to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Please respect certain parties to refrain because this is a truly unfavorable condition for the Indonesian nation. We are still fighting the pandemic, and the economy is still getting disturbances on how to stabilize it. Refrain from going well," he said.

An explosion that was suspected of being a bomb occurred around the Cathedral Church, Kajaolalido Street, Ujung Pandang District, Makassar City, around 10.30 central Indonesia time. At the time of the explosion, the congregation in the church had just finished saying Palm Sunday Mass.

The location of the explosion which was in the vicinity of the Ujung Pandang Police and the Makassar Police and the Makassar City Hall Office immediately made a scene and the police immediately moved to the scene to secure the location.

It was reported that 14 people were injured including church officials and congregants who are still being treated in 3 hospitals, while the identity of the remains of the suicide bomber is still being investigated.

Police said the perpetrators were two people riding on a motorbike and wanted to break into the church.
