Proton's First Electric Car Will Debut To The Public In Malaysia's Independence Day Parade

JAKARTA - Proton has introduced its first electric vehicle (EV) named eMas 7 which takes a base from the Geely Galaxy E5. Now, the car is announced to be appearing in public for the first time in a National Day parade or on Malaysian independence day on August 31.

Proton CEO Li Chunrong, said that the presence of this model at the parade also allowed the public to see the SUV in person even though it had not been officially launched.

"We made the decision to include the Proton eMas 7 in our parade lineup, although it has not yet been launched, so that everyone can take a closer look at the company's first EV model," Li Chunrong was quoted as saying by Paultan, Thursday, August 29.

As part of the celebration, the car, which still has the status of a prototype, will use a special camouflage attached to the body's entire body decorated with greetings in several languages in the world, but with the colors of the Gemilang Line, namely red, blue, yellow, and white, typical of the neighboring country.

"Because this model is not a late-stage production vehicle, the vehicle will be displayed using camouflage, but in the spirit of National Hari, we have chosen the color representing the Malaysian flag," added Li Chunrong.

Built on the Global Modular Architecture (GMA) platform, eMas 7 has been designed with efficiency of up to 90.04 percent and a lithium-iron phosphate battery using an Aegis short-blade battery cell. The car is also powered by a 7 nm chip to operate the Flyme Auto infotainment system.

Although the official specifications have not been disclosed, it is estimated that eMas 7 will have something no different from the Galaxy E5 in China.

As an illustration, the Geely Galaxy E5 is armed with a single electric motorbike 218 ps and a torque of 320 Nm which can speed up from 0 to 100 km/hour within 6.9 seconds. This car offers two battery capacities, namely 49.52 kWh with a range of 440 km and 60.22 kWh which are claimed to be capable of running as far as 530 km.

Marking the global start of the Proton electrification program, eMas 7 will certainly be officially introduced by the end of this year and it is hoped that the full specifications will also be announced.
