UN DK Extends Peacekeeping Mission In Lebanon In A Year

JAKARTA - The United Nations (UN) Security Council unanimously voted to extend the peacekeeping mission that has lasted a long time in Lebanon for another year.

The UN Temporary Forces in Lebanon (UNIFIL), which was formed in 1978 - patrolled the southern border of Lebanon with Israel.

The mandate for the operation is updated annually, and its authorization will now end on Saturday.

As reported by Reuters on Wednesday, August 28, the vote came just days after Lebanese militant groups, Hezbollah, and the Israeli military were involved in the most intense exchange of fire between them over the past 10 months amid fears the Israeli war in Gaza would be a wider regional conflict.
