DPR Asks The Government For Clinical Trials Of Red And White Vaccines To Anticipate World Vaccine Embargo

JAKARTA - Deputy Speaker of the DPR, Sufmi Dasco Ahmad, asked the government to immediately accelerate the development and production of domestic COVID-19 vaccines, such as the Red and White Vaccine and the Nusantara Vaccine.

Given that, currently vaccines are a very urgent need in the fight against the COVID-19 pandemic. Moreover, there is news that there has been a vaccine embargo in several countries.

"The government needs to immediately accelerate the clinical trial process and domestic vaccine production, both the Red and White vaccine and the Indonesian vaccine. Don't let us fall victim to the vaccine embargo and the public will become victims," said Dasco, Saturday, March 27.

According to Dasco, domestic vaccines could be a solution if the vaccine embargo was carried out by many countries. As is the concern of the Minister of Health, Budi Gunadi Sadikin.

He urged the government to accelerate the process of developing the Red and White vaccine, and immediately prepare a phase two clinical trial for the Nusantara vaccine. This step is to protect Indonesia from the threat of vaccine scarcity.

"Please immediately coordinate with hospitals that have met the requirements for phase two clinical trials. Vaccines are currently a fairly urgent need," said the Gerindra politician.

Previously, Minister of Health (Menkes) Budi Gunadi Sadikin revealed that currently there is an embargo (temporary detention) of the COVID-19 vaccine. This has the potential to cause the arrival of the vaccine to be delayed in the coming months.

"There is a note that we have also conveyed to the President, that because there has indeed been a spike in cases in several countries, including India, there has been a vaccine embargo (COVID-19)," Budi said in a virtual press statement via YouTube, the Presidential Secretariat, Friday. , March 26.

"So that it may interfere with the arrival of the vaccine or the availability of the COVID-19 vaccine in the next few months," he continued.

The embargo impacts shipments from vaccine producing countries. Thus, the Minister of Health reminded all stakeholders to be careful in regulating the rate of vaccine injection.
