Central Java KPU Ensures To Participate In The Constitutional Court's Decision On Registration Of Candidates For Regional Heads
The Central Java KPU is still waiting for technical instructions for registering regional head candidates in the 2024 gubernatorial election from the Indonesian KPU, following the decision of the Constitutional Court Number 60/PUU-XXII/2024.
"Regarding technical policies, we are still waiting for the Indonesian KPU, such as several norms that are the basis for candidacy," said Central Java KPU Chairman Handi Tri Ujiono in Semarang, Sunday.
The requirements regarding the prospective regional head candidates in the 2024 Pilkada itself have been regulated in PKPU Number 8 of 2024. He ensured that the Central Java KPU followed the Constitutional Court's decision regarding the nomination requirements in the regional elections later.
Previously, the Constitutional Court granted part of the case lawsuit number 60/PUU-XXII/2024 filed by the Labor Party and the Gelora Party against the Pilkada Law relating to the threshold for the nomination requirements for regional heads.

The Constitutional Court stated that Article 40 Paragraph 1 of Law Number 10 of 2016 concerning regional elections was contrary to the 1945 Constitution.
The Constitutional Court has decided that the threshold for nomination of regional heads is no longer 25 percent of the votes acquired by political parties or coalitions of political parties resulting from the legislative elections or 20 percent of DPRD seats.
Based on the Constitutional Court's decision on the conditions for candidacy in Law Number 10 of 2016 concerning regional elections, the threshold for support requirements for Central Java province is 6.5 percent of the legal votes of political parties or coalitions of political parties.
Registration of candidates for Governor and Deputy Governor of Central Java in the 2024 Pilkada itself will be open from 27 to 29 August 2024.
