Don't Make KPK A Protecter From Political Dynasty
JAKARTA - A candidate for the leadership of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) who has just been said to have a special task of protecting Jokowi's family after stepping down.
This was conveyed by the Secretary of Indonesia Audit Watch (IAW) Iskandar Sitorus when he was a moderator in a public discussion held by Suaranetizen+62, in Jakarta, Friday, August 23.
The statement was answered by IT observer Roy Suryo, who stated that the establishment of the KPK was in accordance with KPK Law Number 30 of 2002 which explained that the anti-corruption agency was independent and did not depend on anyone.
"Initially, the KPK first established an dividend in accordance with KPK Law number 30 of 2002, an institution that does not depend on anyone," said Roy Suryo.

Roy added that in the government of President Joko Widodo, the law was changed to the KPK Law No. 19 of 2019 which turned the institution into an executive body.
"The problem is that Article 1 paragraph 3 of the KPK has turned into an executive body, no longer an independent institution. So we ask that the KPK be returned as an independent institution," he said.
Roy Suryo's affirmation was supported by Sugeng Teguh Santosa's statement from the Indonesia Police Watch (IPW). Sugeng assesses that the KPK is currently used as a political tool for the president to protect his dynasty.
"The change in KPK status can have an impact on the integrity of the institution, especially in handling major cases involving political elites. Where the KPK is going if it is currently used as a political tool from the president in protecting its dynasty," he said.
