The Case Of Father Bela His Son Abusing Children In South Sulawesi's Konsel Is Completed Through Restorative Justice

The case of child abuse with the perpetrator was a heavy equipment guard in Laonti District, South Konawe (South Konawe), Southeast Sulawesi (Sultra), was resolved through a restorative justice (RJ) approach.

Head of the South Sumatra District Attorney's Office, Ujang Sutisna, said the incident involving suspects with the initials S and MH occurred on May 27, 2024.

"The persecution was carried out by S for the bullying incident experienced by his son. However, S's actions caused minor injuries to the victim," he said in Andoolo, Konsel, Monday, August 20, which was confiscated by Antara.

Ujang said that in the legal process that occurred, law enforcement continued to carry out until it was finally completed through the RJ approach.

"The mediation process was previously carried out on Monday (August 5) at the Konsel Kejari Hall attended by facilitating prosecutors, investigators, victims, victims' families, suspects, families of suspects, and community leaders," he said.

He explained that during the meeting, all parties present agreed to resolve the case amicably, as well as the families of the victims to forgive the suspect's actions.

According to Ujang, the implementation of this RJ is a manifestation of a humanist approach in law enforcement which aims to restore balance in society and provide opportunities for suspects to improve themselves without having to serve prison terms.

"The success of implementing restorative justice in this case shows the important role of a more inclusive legal approach, which focuses not only on imposing penalties, but also on efforts to improve relations between individuals in society," he said.
