PDIP Asks KPU To Immediately Follow Up On The Constitutional Court's Decision On Pilkada

Chairman of the PDIP DPP Said Abdullah hopes that the General Elections Commission (KPU) will follow up on the decision of the Constitutional Court (MK) which changes the threshold rules for nominating regional heads in regional elections.

According to Said, the Constitutional Court's decision is a breath of fresh air for Indonesian democracy.

"With the Constitutional Court Decision Number 60 PUU-XXII/2024 which changes the terms of nomination of regional heads, we hope that we will immediately comply with all of us, especially election organizers and regional elections, in this case the General Elections Commission. Because the Constitutional Court's decision is final and binding. We hope that the KPU will immediately follow up on the implementation of the regional elections in the near future," Said told reporters, Tuesday, August 20.

With this decision, a number of parties including PDIP can nominate regional heads and deputy regional heads. Where previously, the opportunity for PDIP to nominate itself was closed because it did not meet the nomination requirements for 20 seats.

"Regarding the PDI-P opportunity, God willing, it will also be wide open with the Constitutional Court's decision, including in Jakarta. Because the decision states that the number of voters is between 6 to 12 million people. The requirements for nominating regional heads and deputy regional heads by parties and coalition parties are at least 7.5 percent of valid votes in the province. We in Jakarta get a valid vote of 850,196 or 14 percent," said Said.

Apart from Jakarta, Said assessed, PDIP's opportunity in East Java is also getting wider. Because the nomination requirement is 6.5 percent of the total valid votes. PDIP in East Java in the 2024 election yesterday received a valid vote of 3,735,965 or 16.3 percent.

"Likewise in various other regions, God willing, PDIP's opportunity to nominate regional heads and deputy regional heads will be more open," said the East Java legislator.

PDIP, he continued, will also continue to build political cooperation with various parties. According to Said, the Constitutional Court's decision is the victory of the people and victory of democracy.

"The MK has returned its dignity which was negative because it changed the terms of the nomination of the president and vice president a few moments ago. With the decision, hopefully we will all obey it with respect. We hope that with this Constitutional Court decision the quality of our regional elections in the future will be better, jurdil and democratic," he concluded.
