Alexander Marwata: Don't Just KPK Shout Corruption Eradication

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Alexander Marwata said that corruption eradication is not only the task of his institution. All stakeholders must take it seriously.

This was conveyed by Alexander Marwata in response to the absence of corruption issues when President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) delivered his last state speech at the MPR Annual Session and the DPR-DPD RI Joint Session. At that time, the former Governor of DKI Jakarta conveyed more various achievements of his government during his 10 years in office.

"Don't just the KPK scream to eradicate corruption on the other side of stakeholders, yes, as if there is no problem with this corruption," Alexander told reporters at the KPK's Merah Putih building, Kuningan Persada, South Jakarta, Saturday, August 17.

Alexander said that he did not hear directly the state speech conveyed by Jokowi. "But if it really doesn't mention the issue of corruption, yes, maybe he already thinks that the corruption issue may be only a matter for the KPK or maybe only the matter of the police, the prosecutor's office or other law enforcement agencies," he said.

Therefore, Alexander regretted the absence of the issue of corruption in Jokowi's last state speech. Because, he should be the supreme commander in fighting fraudulent practices.

"The high commitment is what we need. The president must be a role model, become a commander in the fight against corruption and what we hope is like that (because, ed) in many countries that have succeeded in eradicating corruption, it does start from the commitment of the top leadership," said Alexander.

Meanwhile, President Jokowi in his speech at the Parliament Complex, Senayan, Central Jakarta, yesterday exhibited more infrastructure development and disbursed trillions of rupiah for social safety nets. He did discuss legal issues in the country but only about the new Criminal Code (KUHP) and restorative justice implemented by the Supreme Court (MA).

Meanwhile, in 2022, Jokowi had highlighted corruption cases that were massively detrimental to state finances such as Jiwasraya, Asabri to BLBI. Not only that, he also mentioned the Corruption Perception Index (IPK) from Transparency International Indonesia (TII) to the Anti-Corruption Behavior Index from BPS which increased.
