Global Uncertainty Increases, Puan Reveals State Budget Is Too Deep For Fiscal Space
JAKARTA - Chairman of the House of Representatives (DPR) of the Republic of Indonesia, Puan Maharani, said that in the last five years, Indonesian travel has seemed to be sailing facing the exposure to tidal waves that have never stopped.
"Starting from the Covid Pandemic 19, regional geopolitical conflicts between countries, geopolitical tensions that extend to the Middle East, food crises, global energy crises, and global economic turmoil," he said at the Opening of the First Session Period of the DPR RI for the 2024-2025 Session Year.
Puan conveyed that the turmoil and global uncertainty had a direct impact on life such as health, social, food, energy, economics, and even the presence of the government in saving people's lives, as if being tested.
According to Puan, the State Revenue and Expenditure Budget (APBN), as one of the strategic instruments in the administration of state government, has even experienced a very deep correction to the fiscal space, to be able to handle various affairs of the people's needs.
Puan conveyed that the decline in tax revenues, and the increasing need for subsidy spending were enormous. So the bitter choice taken with a very large debt withdrawal.

Therefore, Puan expressed her gratitude for mutual cooperation, working with all stakeholders from the DPR RI, the Central Government, Regional Government, TNI, POLRI, BUMN, Private, MSMEs and all people, in maintaining the national economy.
"We should be grateful for this, because many experiences of other countries have not fully recovered, especially since the economy can grow 5 percent every year," he said.
Puan added that National development, although accompanied by various challenges, has succeeded in advancing Indonesia, especially in massive infrastructure development.
