Minister Of Health Budi Gunadi Highlights Cases Of Young Doctors Who Commit Suicide At Undip

JAKARTA - Minister of Health (Menkes), Budi Gunadi Sadikin also highlighted the suicide case involving Aulia Risma Lestari, a young specialist doctor education program (PPDS) at Diponegoro University (Undip) Semarang.

The Minister of Health said that his party would temporarily suspend the University of Diponegoro anesthetic study program at Dr. Kariadi Hospital for one week.

Budi revealed that during this temporary suspension period, his party had found strong evidence in the form of a victim's daily book. The book will be examined by investigators, to confirm whether the depression experienced by the victim was the main cause of suicide.

He also added that the notebook contained notes detailing the lives of victims which were expected to accelerate the investigation process.

"We are working with the local police to investigate this suicide case. We have found evidence in the form of daily records that allow us to understand the mental condition of the victim during his life," said Budi Friday, August 16.

Budi added that this evidence is currently in the process of being audited by the local police.

"The details written in the notebook are quite clear, so we will confirm whether there are any incidents listed in it. If proven, anyone involved in the action will be given strict sanctions," he said.

Budi emphasized that after the investigation into the notebook is complete, the Ministry of Health will give strict sanctions to doctors at the Undip Faculty of Medicine who are proven to have bullied. This is further strengthened by the results of an autopsy showing that the victim died from suicide.

In addition, the Ministry of Health will encourage Undip to make thorough improvements to its education system. He stressed that bullying cannot be justified for any reason, including reasons to form a strong workforce.

"We also ask that the anesthetic education at Diponegoro University and Kariadi Hospital be repaired, so that there will be no more bullying behavior like this. We can form a formidable force without having to cause them to lose their lives," he concluded.
