Germany Investigate Alleged Sabotage Of Water At Cologne Military Base

JAKARTA - The German military base next to Cologne airport is temporarily closed. Soldiers are reminded not to drink tap water when authorities investigate possible sabotage.

Military Territorial Command said a guard detected a hole in a fence near a water treatment plant in the barracks on Wednesday, August 14 morning. These findings were then investigated.

The water supply was stopped because the drinking water system showed unusual levels, he said.

The base, which houses 4,300 soldiers and 1,200 civil servants, reopened in the afternoon. The base is a fleet of military aircraft used for travel by Chancellor Olaf Scholz and his ministers.

Barak will be supplied with water through the tube until the test results are available.

Meanwhile, the NATO base near Geislenkirchen, which houses the alliance's AWACS reconnaissance aircraft fleet, increased its security level after the incident in Cologne, but did not close access.

The base (in Geilenkirchen) was never closed. We checked the water, it's okay, and the base is accessible," the spokesperson said.
