PT KHE Has Invested and is Ready to Collaborate in the Kayan Cascade Hydroelectric Power Plant Project

JAKARTA - PT Kayan Hydro Energy (PT KHE) stated that it has invested in the construction of the Kayan Cascade Hydroelectric Power Plant (PLTA) and is ready to collaborate with various parties who have the readiness and experience in the field of hydroelectric investment. This was stated after a business meeting with several leading Japanese energy companies in Tokyo, Japan.

The meeting, which took place on July 18, 2024, was attended by executives from eight major Japanese energy companies, including J-Power, Sojitz Corporation, and Marubeni Corporation. This event was held to welcome the 2nd Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC) Ministerial Meeting and was led by the Indonesian Ambassador to Japan, Heri Akhmadi.

After the meeting facilitated by the Indonesian Ambassador, PT KHE held a separate business meeting with executives from Japanese energy companies. In the meeting, PT KHE explained the latest developments in the Kayan Cascade PLTA project, and emphasized their commitment to partner equally.

In the meeting, PT KHE, as the initiator and owner of the Kayan Cascade hydropower project, received positive results and will be followed up. President Director of PT KHE, Andrew Sebastian Suryali, stated that the company is ready to establish equal partnerships with companies from anywhere. "We are very optimistic about this opportunity. PT KHE is ready to work on this project to realize the Kayan Cascade hydropower plant as a driving force for green energy in Indonesia," said Andrew at the KHE Head Office in Jakarta, Monday, August 12.

The Kayan Cascade hydroelectric power plant is a strategic project designed to build a series of hydroelectric power plants water along the Kayan River Basin, North Kalimantan. With a total capacity of 9000 MW and an estimated cost of USD 17.8 billion, the project is projected to generate 36 Terawatt-hours of electricity per year, which will make a significant contribution to lowering national electricity costs.

Operational Director of PT Kayan Hydro Energy, Sapta Nugraha, added that the project is already underway and infrastructure development has reached a significant stage. "Construction is going well, and we continue to ensure that the Kayan Cascade Hydroelectric Power Plant project is running according to plan," explained Sapta at the PT KHE Head Office.

The Kayan Cascade Hydroelectric Power Plant project not only supports the AZEC initiative which emphasizes sustainability and green technology, but also strengthens Indonesia's commitment to an environmentally friendly energy transition. "We believe that this project will accelerate Indonesia's transition to green energy and reduce dependence on conventional energy sources," said Andrew.
