The First Tuna Woman To Be Named Miss South Africa
JAKARTA - Mia le Roux has become the first deaf woman to be named Miss South Africa. This treatment came after a divisive process that caused one of the finalists to resign after being ridiculed by her Nigerian heritage.
In her winning speech, Ms Mia Le Roux hopes that this victory will help those who feel ostracized from society.
"I will help them to achieve their "madest dream, like me". Mia le Roux was quoted as saying by VOI from the BBC, Sunday, August 11.

Le Roux is a 28-year-old woman who was diagnosed with severe hearing loss at the age of one. She took 2 years for speech therapy before she was able to say her first words.
After winning, the model and marketing manager said: "I am a proud South African deaf woman and I know how it feels to be ostracized. I know now that I was placed on this planet to break boundaries and I did it tonight." he said.
