Tesla Refuses To Sell Cheap Cybertruck Again, Focuses On Expensive Models

JAKARTA - Tesla has stopped bookings for the cheapest version of the Cybertruck, which is priced at US$61 thousand (equivalent to Rp972 million).

Now, Tesla only accepts orders for a version of 100 thousand US dollars (equivalent to Rp1.6 billion) with deliveries starting this month, as listed on the company's website.

Reuters reported, quoted on August 10, the high demand and limited supply of Cybertruck is the cause. The Cybertruck is indeed a concern for attracting Tesla investors and fans, with CEO Elon Musk having invested many resources in the development of this truck with a target production of 200,000 units per year.

In October, Musk stated that Tesla had received 1 million orders for Cybertruck. Some subscribers indicate that they are waiting for a cheaper version, as prices are higher and driving range is lower than previously thought.

"This shows that demand is much lower than one million trucks," said Guidehouse Insights analyst Sam Abuelsamid.

The Cybertruck sold nearly 4,800 units last July, making it the best month since its launch and making it the best-selling vehicle in the US for over 100 thousand US dollars, according to Cox Automotive data.

"They've sold more than 16,000 units so far, but maintaining high volume at that price point would be a challenge," a Cox spokesperson said in an email.

The delivery of a Cybertruck with an unconventional exterior trapping design, inspired by the film "Blade Runner", and stainless steel body, began in November 2023 after years of delays and a difficult increase in production.

Whereas if you look back in 2019, Musk estimates the truck only costs 40 thousand US dollars (equivalent to Rp638 million) and is able to cover a distance of more than 500 miles (804 km) on a single charge.
