HMID Opens Opportunities To Bring Hyundai Inster To Indonesia, Produced By CKD?

Hyundai has officially introduced Inster globally as well as expanded its electric vehicle (EV) market. This car comes as a sub-compact electric car that offers a bold design, field interior, advanced technology, impressive range.

This car is said to have taken a base from the Petrol-powered Nepal which is sold specifically in South Korea, but is experiencing an overhaul to accommodate the electric drive system into the model.

The South Korean manufacturer also confirmed that it would be present in various markets other than South Korea, namely Europe, the Middle East, and Asia Pacific. However, does the car have a chance to enter Indonesia?

Responding to this, the Chief Operating Officer of PT Hyundai Motors Indonesia (HMID) Fransciscus Soerjopranoto, said that his party opened the opportunity to enter Inster into the country.

"We are studying the Inster Model. We can't say no or yes. If the market is possible, why not?" Suryo said when interviewed by the media in Lebak Bulus, Jakarta, Friday night, August 9.

He also added that products introduced globally have the possibility to enter Indonesia, but all depends on what kind of market needs.

"All products introduced globally have the opportunity to enter Indonesia. But should it be brought here immediately? It depends on consumer needs," added Suryo.

Suryo explained that his party was conducting a study on this model. If the market needs this vehicle to enter Indonesia, then it is good to produce it locally (CKD).

"If the volume is attractive, of course it will be better in CKD. Now this is what we call the study," explained Suryo.

He also added that Hyundai in Indonesia has the ability to produce electric vehicles from various segments, this has been proven by the emergence of Ioniq 5 N and all-new Kona Electric.

"But what we are aiming for is not the Inster, but we have products that have been assembled locally today. We have products in producing Ioniq 5N at a price of Rp1.3 billion, we also have Kona Electric under Rp500 million. So, we have that capability, "said Suryo.

Hyundai Inster is offered in two variants of powertrain, namely with a power of 71.1 kW in the basic variant and 84.5 kW in the long-range type. Both are offered with a torque of 147 Nm.

Regarding the distance, Inster has a 42 kWh battery at the base type and 49 kWh in the Long Range type. Thus, this model offers a distance of up to 355 km according to the WLTP in the Long Range type with an energy consumption of 15.3 kWh/100 km.

This compact model has the ability to charge with a DC fast-charger of 120 kW from 10 to 80 percent in 30 minutes. Hyundai Inster is also compatible with onboard AC 11 kW charging.
