Fleeing To India After Resigning, Former Bangladeshi PM Sheikh Hasina Will Return To His Country
JAKARTA - Former Bangladeshi Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will return to his country when a newly formed interim government decides to hold elections.
Hasina fled to India's neighboring country on Monday after weeks of deadly protests forced her to step down.
The interim government led by Nobel Peace Prize laureate Muhammad Yunus, who was sworn in on Thursday, August 8, was tasked with holding a general election.
Speaking to the Daily Times of India, Hasina's son, Sajeeb Wazed Joy, who lives in the US, said her mother was temporarily in India.
"He will return to Bangladesh when the interim government decides to hold elections," he said.
He did not explain whether Hasina (76) would participate in the election.
"My mother will retire from politics after her current term of office," said Joy.

He took shelter in a hiding house in the New Delhi area. Indian media reported that Hasina was planning to seek asylum in the UK, but the UK Interior Ministry declined to comment.
