Geological Agency Says There Are 362 Locations Of Potential Geothermal In Indonesia

JAKARTA - The Geological Agency of the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) said, Indonesia has 362 locations of geothermal potential located in various regions. An Earth Investigator at the Center for Mineral, Coal and Geothermal Resources (PSDMBP) of the Geological Agency, Nurhadi said, of the 362 locations, only 62 points were explored." “ A total of 362 locations spread from the end of Sumatra to Papua even in the Kalimantan area which we refer to as a source of coal and oil and gas basins there is also the potential for geothermal,” said Nurhadi in Bandung, as reported by Antara, Wednesday, August 7.Nurhadi revealed that the 61 locations that have been explored, while Indonesia also has 18 Geothermal Power Plants (PLTP) managed by the government and the private sector."Sementara yang sudah dikembangkan saat ini oleh perusahaan-perusahaan baik BUMN maupun swasta itu pada umumnya sekitar 90 persen berasal dari sistem jerat,” kata dia.He said that of the total geothermal resources of 23,531 megawatts (MW), its use for electricity needs was only around 11 percent."“Until now, our PLTP has reached 2,374.4 MW or about 11 percent of the total geothermal resources in Indonesia," he said. Therefore, he hopes that the potential geothermal locations spread across these areas can be followed up to encourage the use of new and renewable energy (EBT).Nurhadi added that his party is committed to continuing to explore to find the existence or potential of geothermal so that Indonesia's target of achieving net zero emissions (NZE) in 2060 can be met.
"We from the Geological Agency will continue to explore geothermal locations that have not been identified. Information from the public and local governments is very important for us to explore the potential for geothermal," said Nurhadi.
