PSSI Targets Indonesia's Competition To Reach Second Place In ASEAN

JAKARTA - PSSI General Chair Erick Thohir was present at the launch of Liga 1 2024/2025 in Central Jakarta on Tuesday, August 6, 2024.

On this occasion, he targets that Indonesia's competition must develop rapidly by penetrating the levels of Southeast Asia and Asia.

"Our league will roll back for the 2024/2025 season. From the already running, yes, it is hoped that it can rise to the level."

"Hopefully we can enter the top two in Southeast Asia. In Asia, which today (Indonesian League) is ranked 28th. Hopefully it can also go up to rank 15 or 12, yes," said Erick Thohir.

Liga 1 2024/2025 will start on August 9, 2024 by playing the inaugural match between Persib Bandung and PSBS Biak at Si Jalak Harupat Stadium, Soreang, Bandung Regency, West Java.

With the new season rolling, Erick Thohir hopes that the highest level competition in the country can continue to rise.

This was stated by the Chairman of PSSI because in the new season there will also be many new rules applied.

"When I got up (position) to Ketum, I wanted to have a clean and accomplished league. Several steps I took, including continuing to ensure the quality of the referee to be improved," he said.

"We also have video assistant referee (VAR). Apart from VAR, we also agree that there are foreign referees for guest referees, one will come per month."

"In addition, an agreement has also been made regarding the schedule for the Indonesian national team and the competition agenda," said Erick Thohir.

The 2024/2025 Liga 1 competition will present the competition for 18 teams with three of them being promoted teams, namely PSBS Biak, Malut United, and Semen Padang.

Unlike last season, Liga 1 2024/2025 no longer uses the Championship Series format. The competition again uses a league format system like the previous seasons.
