Helicopter In Mimika Hijacked OTK While Flying, Pilot Reportedly Injured

TIMIKA - A helicopter belonging to Intan Angkasa type MD-500 ER with flight number PK-IWN hijacked by an unknown person (OTK) in Alama District, Mimika Regency, Central Papua, Monday 5 August 2024.

Captain Glen Malcolm Conning, who flew the helicopter, was reportedly abused by OTK. Other information says the pilot was shot.

"There is information about the persecution of the helicopter pilot belonging to PT Intan Angkasa with flight number PK-IWN," said Mimika Police Chief AKBP I Komang Budiartha confirming.

Budiartha said the helicopter piloted by Glen Malcolm departed from the Cargo UPBU Mozes Airport hangar at Timika Refinery at around 09.35 WIT.

The helicopter, which was rented by the Mimika Health Office, was supposed to arrive in the Alama district at 10.25 WIT and return to Timika at 11.00 WIT.

However, the helicopter never returned. "Until now the helicopter has not arrived," said Budiartha.

The helicopter carried 6 passengers consisting of 4 adults and 2 children. They are Kolariak (adults), Hasmaya (adults), Demianus (dwasa), Ferni (children), Naomi (adults), and Hafidan (children).

"The burden of passengers is 318 kg with a trunk weight of 86 kg," explained Budiartha.
