Kamala Harris Wins The Majority Of The Votes Of Democratic Delegations To Become A US Presidential Candidate

JAKARTA - Vice President of the United States (US) Kamala Harris crossed the threshold needed to become a presidential candidate from the Democratic Party in the DNC vote.

The majority of the Democratic Party delegates elected Kamala Harris as a presidential candidate for the party in a virtual vote.

The National Democratic Committee began the formal process of selecting candidates on Thursday, August 1, when the vote opened to more than 4,000 party delegates to cast their votes using online forms or by telephone.

Kamala Harris needs to get votes from 2,350 delegates to cross the threshold required to win a nomination, the campaign team said.

The vote closed at 6pm on Monday, August 5, next week.

"I am very proud to confirm that Vice President Harris has obtained more than the majority of votes from the entire convention delegation and will be a candidate for the Democratic Party after the closing of the vote on Monday," said Jaime Harrison, chairman of the National Democratic Committee reported by CBS News, Saturday, August 3.

"Today, my friends, is a special day, because we can proudly say that we will have the first woman of color to top the big party ticket," he said.

Kamala Harris joins the phone call and will officially receive the nomination after the voting period closes.

"I am honored to be a candidate for president of the United States from the Democratic Party," Harris said.
