Many People Are Entangled In Illegal Loans, OJK: Can't Be Distinguished From Legal

JAKARTA - The government continues to aggressively eradicate illegal online loans or loans that are increasingly rife in Indonesia today. But on the other hand, it turns out that not a few people are tempted to access illegal loans.

Chief Executive of the Behavior Supervisory of Financial, Education, and Consumer Protection Business Actors of the Financial Services Authority (OJK) Frederica Widyasari Dewi said the main consideration of the public choosing illegal loans compared to legal loans was ease.

The woman who is familiarly called Kiki said illegal online loans offered convenience in terms of accessing loans in a short time.

In addition, continued Kiki, there are still many people who cannot distinguish between illegal loans and official loans that have permission from the OJK. Finally, many people were entangled in illegal loans.

"Especially for illegal loans, it's a shame that people are often wrong, how they can't distinguish between legal loans and illegal loans," he said.

Therefore, Kiki said that his party also continues to intensify socialization and educate the public about the dangers behind accessing loans through illegal loans.

According to him, with massive socialization and education, it is hoped that it can increase public understanding of the dangers of accessing illegal loans.

"Actually, OJK has provided a lot of convenience, namely if you are confused or in doubt please ask the OJK in 081 157 157 157 or call. Well, it's also called fraud, yes, they sometimes also match it with those who borrow legal ones," he explained.

In addition, Kiki said that the OJK together with the Task Force for the Eradication of Illegal Financial Activities (Satgas PASTI) were conducting cyber patrols together with the Ministry of Communication and Information (Kominfo) to prevent illegal lending from roaming.

"So once we receive the report or we find that we are closing it right away. But sometimes they are parties abroad, where sometimes something like this in their country is legal. Now this is indeed the challenge," said Kiki.

Even so, Kiki said OJK continues to block illegal loans. He said more than 8,000 illegal loans had been closed since 2015.

"But if we look at more than 8,500 illegal loans, we have closed since 2015," he said.
