Banking Will Require Joining Anti-Scam Center Team

JAKARTA - The Financial Services Authority (OJK) will require all banks to join the anti-terror center team or the "Anti-Scam Center". This is to increase public protection against online fraud.

"Yes, you have to come. Moreover, banks that are often used for fraud & scams, right? That's all. A large bank is certain," said Chief Executive Supervision of the Supervision of Behavior Supervisory for Financial Services Business Actors, Education and Consumer Protection OJK Friderica Widyasari Dewi quoting Antara.

Friderica or who is familiarly called Kiki explained that the government's initiation in forming a special team arose due to the rise of cases of fraud (fraud and scam) online experienced by the community.

He assessed that online fraud that often occurs is a risk resulting from digital innovation that continues to develop to this day.

Therefore, an active solution is needed from the government and other stakeholders, especially banks, to be able to take action against these crimes.

"This has happened very often almost every day we hear people, for example the OTP is stolen, the money is lost and so on. We have mapped this, later we will convey the data that within three years, the number of people losing from fraud and scams is very large," he explained.

Kiki said that in other countries, the formation of the Anti-Scam Center team has been carried out a lot. He gave an example of Singapore, which had already formed an Anti-Scam Center to protect the public from various types of online fraud.

"We study in other countries, how all of these banks are occupied in one room, then if there is a fraud and scam that is reported by the public, they can immediately catch up. Hopefully, the asset recovery will be good," he said.

The Anti-Scam Center is expected to detect various bank accounts that are misused for illegal activities, both as holding accounts and the last beneficial owner.

The Anti-Scam Center is the result of the initiative of 16 ministries/agencies (K/L) that have received support from President Joko Widodo (Jokowi).

Kiki added that the special team will be inaugurated in the near future.
