BPS Reports Deflation O.18 Percent In July 2024
JAKARTA - The Central Statistics Agency (BPS) recorded a deflation in July 2024 of 0.18 percent on a monthly basis or month to month (mtm) or a decrease in consumer price index from 106.28 in June 2024 to 106.09 in July 2024.
Meanwhile, year on year (yoy) inflation was 2.13 percent and in the ytd calendar year there was 0.89 percent inflation.
Acting Head of BPS, Amalia A. Widyasanti said the July 2024 deflation was deeper than in June 2024 and was the third deflation in 2024.
"The expenditure group that contributes to the largest deflation is food for drinks and tobacco with a deflation of 0.97 percent and contributes 0.28 percent of deflation," he said in an online press conference, Thursday, August 1.
Amalia added that there are commodities that contribute to inflation, including chili and rice with a share of inflation of 0.04 percent each.
Gold powdered coffee jewelry, potatoes, machine kretek cigarettes and handlines with 0.01 percent inflation each.

"Another note is that education groups also contributed the largest inflation of 0.04 percent or experienced inflation of 0.60 percent," he said.
Amalia also said that if you look at the distribution of monthly inflation according to the region, 32 out of 38 provinces of Indonesia experience deflation, while 6 others experience inflation.
"The deepest deflation of 1.07 percent occurred in West Sumatra, while the highest inflation occurred in Southwest Papua at 0.25 percent," concluded Amalia.
