2024 Olympics: Gregoria Gets Round Of 16 Tickets

JAKARTA The women's singles badminton player Gregoria Mariska Tunjung kept her dream by qualifying for the round of 16 of the 2024 Paris Olympics.

The 2017 junior world champion locked up the Group G champion after stopping the representative of the Republic of Ceska, Tereza Svab warungkova, two straight games 21-12 and 21-18 at the Adidas Arena, Wednesday, July 31, 2024, WIB night.

The same round was previously achieved by Gregoria when she debuted at the Olympics in the Tokyo 2020 edition, which was postponed a year due to the corona pandemic.

Gregoria will next meet South Korean representative Kim Ga-eun. On paper, Gregoria is much more favored because of their meeting record.

They have met eight times before. From the total meeting, Gregoria was always recorded as the winner.

Gregoria as the only women's singles at the 2024 Olympics is expected to end the gold medal drought from that event since the 1992 Barcelona Olympics.

Apart from Gregoria, the ticket to the knockout round was also obtained by the men's doubles pair Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto.

Meanwhile, the three representatives who have been eliminated are Jonatan Christie's men's singles, Apriyani Rahayu's women's doubles/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti, and Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari mixed doubles.
