2024 Olympics: Fajar/Rian Meets Liang Weikeng/Wang Chang

JAKARTA Men's doubles Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto got difficult opponents in the quarter-finals of the 2024 Paris Olympics, namely Chinese representatives, Liang Weikeng/Wang Chang.

Fajar/Rian reached the knockout stages as runners-up in Group C. Meanwhile, Liang/Wang continued their journey by title as winners of Group A.

During the group stage, Fajar/Rian won once and lost once. The win did not cover their victory in the first match against the German representative, Mark Lamsfuss/Marvin Seidel.

The Chinese pair had a perfect record during the preliminary phase. They managed to win all of the three matches played.

Clashes with Liang/Wang are certainly a tough mural for Fajar/Rian. On paper, the meeting will be their ninth competitive clash.

In the previous eight clashes, Fajar/Rian had a 3-5 winning record. These statistics show that Fajar/Rian's efforts to donate medals for Indonesia will not be easy.

From that series of meetings, four of them took place this year. Fajar/Rian were also recorded to have won one of their last clashes at the Singapore Open tournament in May 2024.

The men's doubles sector last contributed a gold medal for Indonesia at the 2008 Beijing edition of the Olympics through the pair Markis Kido / Hendra Setiawan.

In Olympic history, the men's doubles also contributed the most gold medals for Indonesia, which was three pieces.

In addition to 2008, the men's doubles also contributed to the 1996 Atlanta edition of gold medals through Rexy Mainaky/Ricky Subagja and Tony Gunawan/Chandra Widjaja in Sydney 2000.
