Ismail Haniyeh's Funeral Ceremony Held At Tehran University Today, Khamenei Will Lead The Prayers Of The Body

JAKARTA - Tehran will host the funeral ceremony of Hamas Political Bureau Head Ismail Haniyeh this Thursday.

Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei will lead the funeral prayer of the late Ismail Haniyeh, Mehr reported as quoted August 1.

It said it would be held at a ceremony at the University of Tehran on Thursday morning, before the official funeral ceremony in the capital.

The series of events will begin at 8.30 am local time. The Iranian people, government and military officials will take part in the procession.

Previously, Khamenei said Israel had prepared a path for severe punishment for themselves by killing Ismail Haniyeh.

"With this action, the regime of criminal Zionists and terrorists prepares the way for severe punishment for themselves," he stressed in a message issued Wednesday.

Iran considers its duty to take revenge for the killing of Haniyeh who died in Iranian territory, the leader added.

Palestinian militant group Hamas confirmed the death of Ismail Haniyeh at his residence in Tehran, Iran, on Wednesday morning. He died along with a bodyguard.

Haniyeh was in Tehran to attend the inauguration ceremony of Iran's elected president Masoud Pezeshkian which was held Tuesday afternoon.

Previously, he had met with Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Pezeshkian before the inauguration ceremony.

Hamas announced that the funeral ceremony for the late Haniyeh would be held in Tehran on Thursday, while his body would be buried in Doha, Qatar on Friday.
