Indonesia: The Murder Of Ismail Haniyeh Is A Provocative Action That Can Increase Escalation
JAKART - Indonesia condemns the murder of the Head of the Political Bureau of Hamas Ismail Haniyeh as a provocative measure that can increase the escalation of conflicts in the region.
Palestinian militant group Hamas confirmed the death of Ismail Haniyeh at his residence in Tehran, Iran, on Wednesday morning. He died along with a bodyguard.
"Indonesia condemned the murder of Ismail Haniyeh, Head of the Human Rights Political Bureau in Tehran, Iran on July 31, 2024," the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs tweeted on the X account, Wednesday, July 31.
"This action is a provocative action that can increase the escalation of conflicts in the region and undermine the negotiation process that continues to be pursued," the ministry continued.
Haniyeh was in Tehran to attend the inauguration ceremony for Iran-elected President Masoud Pezeshkian which was held Tuesday afternoon.

Previously, he had met with Iran's Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei and Pezeshkian before the inauguration ceremony.
Hamas announced that the funeral ceremony for the late Haniyeh would be held in Tehran on Thursday, while his body would be buried in Doha, Qatar on Friday.
