Inspiration And Career Motivation Of HOD PT GNI At MPLK Tridaya Polytechnic Virtu Morosi
JAKARTA - One of the Heads of Departments at nickel smelter company PT Gunbuster Nickel Industry (GNI), attended and became a resource person at the Polytechnic Tridaya Virtu Morosi (PTVM) Campus Environmental Recognition Period (MPLK) event. The event which took place on Monday, July 29, was attended by hundreds of new students, lecturers, and academic staff, as well as a valuable moment to gain direct insight from the industrial world.
Head of Corporate Communication of PT GNI Mellysa Tanoyo, who is familiarly called Mellysa, has a long experience in the nickel smelter industry, sharing his experience in an exposure themed "Inter-Cultural Communications in the Smelter Industry". He also shared his journey from the beginning of his career to reaching the current position at PT GNI, one of the largest nickel processing companies in Indonesia. This experience provides his own inspiration for new students.
Director of PTVM, Dr. Ing Yuliadi Erdani MSc IPU, in his speech said that PTVM always strives for the best to always be a place for students and students to develop and transform.
"This transformation is a process of changing mindset, attitude, self-discipline, communication, and so on," he said.
Dr. Ing Yuliadi also emphasized that vocational education is oriented towards expertise, so it is expected to be able to compete globally.
"This Polytechnic is located in the Southeast Sulawesi region, where the development of the smelter industry is growing rapidly or in the downstream industry and its derivatives. So that students are expected to have good attitudes and socialization and are ready for changes," he said.
In his presentation, Mellysa emphasized the importance of understanding inter-cultural communication, because Indonesia consists of many diverse ethnic languages, religions, and traditions, so that these communications help maintain harmony in the midst of diversity. In a wider scope, inter-cultural communication can generate innovation and creativity, as well as create better individual and team work.
"Communication between cultures can introduce a new perspective so that the team is able to overcome differences and use them as a force. These communication skills create superior and competent individuals," said Mellysa.
Furthermore, he also discussed various topics related to inter-cultural communication in the nickel smelter industry. According to him, students have an important role in understanding inter-cultural communication, because inter-cultural communication can have benefits for individuals themselves and for career development.
