2024 President's Cup: Borneo To The Finals After A Dramatical Win Over Persija

JAKARTA - Borneo FC secured tickets for the 2024 President's Cup final after overthrowing Persija Jakarta 2-1 at Manahan Stadium, Solo, on Tuesday, July 30, 2024.

The Kemayoran Tigers took the lead through Firza Andika (15') before Borneo made a comeback with goals from Christophe Nduwarugara (44') and Gavin Kwan Adsit (90+6).

Persija dominated the attack during the first 10 minutes. Their efforts finally paid off in the 15th minute.

Starting from Maciej Gajos' free kick which hit the live fence, a wild ball was secured by Firza Andika. The left-back then fired a long-range left-footed shot that Nadeo Argawinata failed to stop.

Left behind 0-1, Pesut Etam began to get out of pressure. The rapid attack scheme becomes a weapon.

Pieter Huistra's men almost equalized in the 23rd minute. However, Stefano Lilipaly's volley in the penalty box was still wide.

Terens Puhiri had a chance three minutes later. However, his left foot shot was still saved by Andritany Ardhiyasa.

A number of efforts were made by Borneo to the end of the match, including Terens' action in the 42nd minute. However, his shot from close range still hit Persija defenders and resulted in a corner.

This corner was the beginning of Pesut Etam's opening goal. Christophe Nduwarugara shook Persija's goal net after his header using Stefano's corner kick failed to be blocked by Andritany.

Persija almost took the lead again in injury time, but Riko Simanjuntak's flick was still narrowly wide. As a result, the 1-1 score lasted until halftime.
