2024 Olympics: Apri/Fadia's Journey Ends In Defeat

JAKARTA - The journey of the women's doubles pair Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti on the Paris 2024 Olympic stage ended in defeat.

They gave up two straight games 18-21 and 9-21 when they played their last Group A match against Malaysia's representative Pearly Tan/Thinaah Muralitharan, on Tuesday, July 30, 2024, afternoon WIB.

In total, from the three matches that were played in the preliminary phase, Apri/Fadia did not win a single one. The results that made them return from Paris as caretaker of the group.

The previous two defeats occurred when they met Mayu Matsumoto/Wakana Nagahara (Japan) and the first seed from China, Chen Qingchen/Jia Yifan.

Apri/Fadia also did not win a single set in the total of the three defeats. They went home with Mayu/Wakana who completed the group phase in third place.

Chen/Jia qualified for the knockout stages as group winners, while Pearly/Thinaah became runners-up thanks to their last win over Apri/Fadia.

Apri/Fadia are one of two Indonesian representatives from badminton who have lifted their suitcases. One other representative who has also been eliminated is the mixed doubles Rinov Rivaldy/Pitha Haningtyas Mentari.

From badminton, Indonesia now just has to hope for Jonatan Christie, Anthony Sinisuka Ginting, Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto, and Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.

Fajar/Rian have now confirmed that they will qualify for the knockout round. Meanwhile, the other three representatives will determine their fate in the match Wednesday, July 31, 2024.
