KPK: Japan, Europe And Several Countries Have Released Coal Waste From The B3 Category

JAKARTA - Deputy Chairman of the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK) Lili Pintauli Siregar said that the entry of coal waste or Fly Ash Bottom Ash (FABA) is a category of hazardous and toxic waste (B3), does not fit the category. In fact, he said, many developed countries did not include FABA in the category of B3 waste.

"The results of the literature study show that the categorization of FABA as B3 waste is not by the practice in various international countries such as Japan, the United States, Australia, China, Europe, where FABA is categorized as non-B3 waste", said Lili in a press conference online, Monday, March 22.

She said this is one form of weakness if FABA is included in Government Regulation Number 101 of 2014 concerning Management of Hazardous and Toxic Waste. In fact, so far, PLN has issued a large budget for processing FABA.

This happens because the main energy source of most of the PLTU owned by PLN comes from coal which produces FABA. As a result, PLN must increase the cost of supply (BPP) to IDR 74 per KWH in 2019.

This is then considered to have the potential to lead to corrupt practices in its management if FABA is included as B3 waste.

KPK Monitoring Director Agung Yudha Wibowo said that all this time the fantastic budget had been spent to manage FABA. It's just that FABA can actually be used for many things, including the industry.

"FABA can be used properly, optimally, and meets international standards which will then encourage the international economy because the amount of profit owned by PLN is quite large", she said.
