Africa Targeted To Be The Indonesian EV Battery Market, Coordinating Minister Luhut: We Are Cooperating To Solve Problems

Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan said the government is targeting Africa to become an electric vehicle (EV) battery market.

He said the potential population of Africa in 2045 would double, allowing Indonesia to develop EV businesses there.

"So this is a big market too for this. So let's work together. And I believe in collaboration, we can solve a lot of problems," said Luhut in Jakarta, Monday, July 29.

Luhut said that recently he had made a visit to Africa to establish communication related to the electric vehicle industry.

"They see Indonesia as a country that can help them with this electric vehicle," he said.

Luhut said that his party would later discuss further cooperation with Africa in the Indonesia-Africa Forum.

"We will be happy to build collaboration with them, especially Kenya and South Africa," he said.

Indonesia's cooperation with Africa is not actually the umpteenth time. Previously, Indonesia had several collaborations with African countries such as Pertamina with Kenya and the potential for electrical cooperation with PLN.

"Pertamina and PLN in South Africa have also been worked on, and we also invite the World Bank with Africa, we'll see," concluded Luhut.
