KPU RI Announces Afifuddin Agreed As Definitive Chair
The General Election Commission of the Republic of Indonesia announced that Mochammad Afifuddin had been definitively agreed as Chairman of the Indonesian KPU to replace Hasyim Asy'ari, who was recently fired by the Honorary Council of Election Organizers (DKPP).
RI KPU member August Mellaz said Afifuddin was agreed to become the definitive chairman after all members and secretary general held a plenary meeting on Sunday afternoon.
"Today because of the needs of the organization, we held a complete plenary meeting attended by six KPU RI leaders," said August Mellaz before the opening of the Plenary Meeting on the Determination of Simultaneous Election Results in 2024 Post-implementation of the Constitutional Court Decision at the KPU RI Building, Jakarta, Sunday.

He said the determination was made considering the needs and responsibilities of the organization in the future.
Previously, Afifuddin, who served as a member of the Indonesian KPU Law and Supervision Division, was appointed as Acting Chairman of the Indonesian KPU. Afifuddin will carry out his duties according to his term of office during the current KPU RI period, which is until 2027.
Previously, the Indonesian KPU decided to appoint member of the Legal and Supervision Division Mochammad Afifuddin as Acting Chairperson of the Indonesian KPU replacing Hasyim Asy'ari who was sentenced to dismissal by DKPP.
The decision was based on the results of a closed plenary meeting conducted by the Indonesian KPU in Jakarta, Thursday (4/7).
On Wednesday (3/7), the Indonesian DKPP imposed permanent dismissal sanctions on the Chairman of the Indonesian General Elections Commission (KPU) Hasyim Asy'ari regarding cases of alleged immorality.
In addition, the Indonesian DKPP asked the President of the Republic of Indonesia Joko Widodo to replace Hasyim within seven days of the reading of the verdict.
